KALKAN DIAMOND OF THE TURKISH MEDITERRANEAN
High rise, all inclusive type hotels do not feature in Kalkan. Holiday accommodation is typically by way of apartments, private villas and smaller boutique style hotels. It has many British visitors and whilst it has facilities for it to be as lively as you wish it to be, it does not attract large groups of younger people seeking wild party nights or all day pool parties!
The drive from Dalaman Airport is approximately 1.5 hours or 3 hours from Antalya. There are many easy transfer options at competitive prices and more information can be provided on request. Alternatively you may wish to hire a car from the airport and take a drive yourself.
The town is set on a hillside beneath the beautiful Taurus mountains and almost feels like an amphitheatre around the stunning bay. The pretty streets in the old town area are cobbled and full of character and charm. It can be hilly so it is best to wear sensible shoes! There are many cafes and restaurants where you may wish to sample a traditional Turkish breakfast… an experience never to be forgotten. Market day is Thursday where you can browse the many stalls selling food, clothing, gifts etc and have fun bartering with the sellers.
Kalkan is a great place for dining out there are lots of great restaurants and bars.

The wonderful beaches of Patara or Kaputaş are within a 10 minute drive. A trip to Kalkan is not complete without a day boat trip and there are many great value options from the pretty harbour. Alternatively you may wish to venture a 15 minute car journey to the cooler mountain area where you can enjoy a wonderful lunch at one of the many trout farm restaurants. Kalkan has many nearby historic attractions including Xantos Ancient City, Patara ruins and the sunken city of Kekova.
There are also a variety of beach clubs where you can enjoy water sports, sunbathe, swim in the sea, have lunch or relax and watch the world go by.
Taxis which are plentiful and pretty cheap will take you anywhere you need to go.
English is widely spoken and there are plenty of banks and ATM facilities. Sterling is also widely accepted in shops and restaurants.
